Data Product Manager
Kevala is looking for a self-motivated Data Product Manager with experience managing a data product roadmap in an early-stage, software, start-up environment. Kevala has the world’s largest energy industry dataset, incorporating 90% of U.S. above-ground grid infrastructure and 15% of address-specific consumption data, supporting a diverse set of industry-leading data products including energy forecasting, grid planning and renewables siting. The successful candidate will own the end-to-end lifecycle of Kevala’s data, driving the timely acquisition and publishing of new datasets into the Kevala platform through our emerging Data Management framework. This role will work cross-functionally with market-facing teams to develop solutions that will accelerate the development of the Kevala data architecture, including building APIs and services, that support end-user applications on the platform.
What you will be doing
The Data Product Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, and governance of Kevala’s Data, to ensure the Platform provides a flexible, modular and durable foundation for Kevala’s analytics, ML and AI capabilities. The successful candidate will:
- Lead the end-to-end development of data products, from concept to deployment, across the entire Kevala data vertical
- Maintain data product goals, strategy, and roadmap
- Act as “air traffic controller” across Kevala data-related initiatives, collaborating with stakeholders across the company
- Translate product strategy and roadmap goals into requirements based on methodology requirements, commercial impact, complexity, and duration
- Drive and maintain data governance standards, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance
- Collaborate with engineering and analytics teams to develop a roadmap of internal capabilities to lower time to value, increase margin and reuse of capabilities within the Kevala platform.
- Develop the engineering team’s capability to develop standalone offers as well as bespoke applications across one unified architecture
- Effectively and timely communicate internally and with clients, as appropriate, regarding data ingestion, framework, housing and transferring practices
What you need to succeed
- 5+ years in data product management, data architecture or a related role.
- Proficiency in SQL
- Demonstrated experience working with a diverse range of technologies, frameworks, and architectures
- Strong understanding of data architecture, data governance and data quality principles
- Experience with Agile methodology and working in multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrable experience of data driven decision making based on KPIs and metrics
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
- A growth mindset and comfort with ambiguity
- Ability to think strategically and make tough prioritization decisions
What will make you stand out
- Experience with cloud data platforms (Google Cloud Platform is a plus) and SaaS products
- Experience with technologies such as GIS, BigQuery, DBT, Airflow and Looker
- Experience with energy data including AMI, SCADA, and distribution or transmission network models, and utility operating practices
- Familiarity with Data Vault Modeling and Enterprise data warehouse
- Experience with MLOps / ModelOps
